MONTH 11- CONDUCT A WASTE AUDIT

MONTHLY GOAL: Take a week to monitor your household waste. Identify what you throw away most often and find alternatives to reduce waste, like switching to reusable products or recycling more. Free Alternative: Focus on reducing your consumption overall. Before making any new purchases, consider if it’s a need or a want and try to make do with what you have

DAILY ACTIVITYL: Track the types and amounts of waste you generate each day

Why does it matterThe average American generates about 4.5 pounds of waste per day. Conducting a waste audit can help identify ways to reduce, reuse, and recycle, minimizing landfill waste.

It will save you money: By identifying areas to reduce waste and reusing items, households can save $10-30 per month by minimizing unnecessary purchases and reducing trash disposal fees.

If you want to involve your kids: Make a game out of sorting household trash into recycling, compost, and waste. Kids can learn what items go where and keep track of how much is being recycled or composted.

Be a change maker: Organize a local swap event where people can exchange clothes, books, or household items. This reduces the need to buy new and fosters a community of sharing.
